Today is International Rare Disease Day and Rose had the opportunity to explain her Rare Disease which is SMA or Spinal Muscular Atrophy to her fellow students at Clogher NS this morning. Today was a tiring but good day for Rose. An early start to travel to The Enable Ireland Centre in Cork accompanied by her big Sister Kate and her Mom Karen. Rose had a consultation with her Neurologist Dr. Niamh Mc Sweeney. This is a regular part of her treatment and monitoring of her SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) condition.This was followed by an appointment with Dr.Pat Kiely, Orthopedic Surgeon who carried out a lengthening of the magnetic rods inserted in her back to correct the curvature on her Spine as a result of Scoliosis which is a side effect of SMA. The past week has been a very busy one for Rose, she attended the Kerry Garda Centenary Celebrations in Listowel, was interviewed by Deirdre Walsh of Radio Kerry on the Talkabout Show, interviewed by Audrey Reidy for an article in Kerry’s Eye and also attended her Clippity Clop Therapeutic Riding session. All of this along with her weekly Physiotherapy Sessions.Prior to Christmas Rose will undergo a lengthening of the Rod inserted in her back to correct the curvature on her spine as a result of Scoliosis.The week after Christmas Rose will receive her Spinraza Injection to help her fight the effects of SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).Rose’s biggest concern however is making sure she stays on the good side of the Elf in her Class and the Elf at home prior to Santa arriving on Christmas Eve. 🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻www.GoFundMe.com/f/helprosebloomwww.helprosebloom.ie ... Rose is getting great Therapeutic support from Orla Brosnan and her team at Clippity Clop Therapeutic Horse Riding in Tralee. This therapy has really helped Rose recover her posture following her Scoliosis surgery and her ongoing journey with the effects of SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).
